Things to do in Woodbridge

Centred around the River Deben, Woodbridge has plenty to offer. Here’s how to make the most of a trip to the Suffolk gem this summer:

Perhaps the most popular feature of Woodbridge, the iconic landmark is over 800 years old. Interactive models and video animations sit alongside the mill’s illustrated history. Resting on the bank of the Deben on a beautiful riverfront, just getting there is a delight in itself. Check the website for the wheel turning and milling times during the open season between Easter and October. www.woodbridgetidemill.org.uk

Shopping in Woodbridge

The range of shops in Woodbridge is extensive. Often complimented for its independent shops and boutiques, people often overlook the extensive food and drink offering in Woodbridge. With a greengrocer, a butcher, a delicatessen and a fishmonger, grocery shopping in Woodbridge is a delight.

Sutton Hoo

An awe-inspiring Anglo-Saxon royal burial site and exhibition spread over several acres with commanding views back towards Woodbridge over the river Deben. There are the burial mounds themselves as well as a dramatic exhibition with its reconstruction of the burial chamber which evokes a sense of the ritual that must have taken place, and shows how the treasures were laid out around the king.Plan your visit at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/sutton-hoo

Food and drink in Woodbridge The-Crown-at-Woodbridge---bar-with-boat-suspended-above

All tastes are catered for in Woodbridge. As well as a Farmer’s Market every second and fourth Saturday of the month, there’s plenty of pubs to enjoy the best of Suffolk produce. Starting off on Market Hill there is the Kings Head with Adnam’s and guest ales. Next door is The Galley restaurant for gourmet dining with a Turkish slant, The Angel just around the corner hosts music events and a pub quiz while on the Thoroughfare at The Crown cocktails at the bar await.

For a spot of tea and cake head to The Tea Hut, located right on the banks of the River Debden. They will be offering al fresco dining on 26 May, 9 June and 21 July. The theme is still to be confirmed but keep checking the website for further details.

What’s on in Woodbridge this summer?

Woodbridge hosts a number of annual events so no matter what time of year you choose to visit there’s likely to be something going on. This month local charity Home Start hosts its second Snowflake Ball on 19 May.

Coming up later in the summer is Woodbridge Regatta & Riverside Fair on 16 July, one of the highlights of the town’s social calendar and the Suffolk Coast 100 bike ride takes place on 23 July. For more events visit choosewoodbridge.co.uk
