Winter or summer Dunwich Heath beach is the perfect place to start your day. The beautiful natural beach and coastal reserve offers acres of soft sand to explore and is the home to many species of wildlife including the tiny Dartford Warbler and the Lion Ant. Take in some fresh sea air and the delicious aroma of the coconut-scented yellow gorse. While you’re on the trail of wildlife why not go on to RSPB Minsmere, a real haven of some of the UK’s most popular birdlife. There’s a fun Wild Zone to explore with den buildings, you can take a virtual coastal tour or enjoy some great countryside walks. There are activities taking place all year round including the Magic of Minsmere Weekend Walks. Visit rspb.org.uk.

Continuing the sea theme, the discovery of the Sutton Hoo Burial Ship in 1939 was one of the most important in Anglo Saxon history. The 27-metre ship dragged up from the River Deben just along from Saxmundham, contained a massive haul from the times including gilded helmets and swords which told the story of the Anglo Saxon kings of the time. A must-see for all the family. Visit nationaltrust.org.uk for details of tours and how to get the most from your visit.
