From the Christmas light switch-on on, right up until Christmas Eve, visit Bedford’s town centre and buy from independent shops, find well-known brands, eat, drink and be merry!

 From Wednesday 5 – Sunday 9 December, the annual Christmas Tree Festival takes place in St Paul’s Church, raising money for the Bedford Hospitals Charity. Visitors can see over 65 trees individually decorated by local businesses and community groups on the theme of Christmas around the world. Wednesday 5 – Saturday 8 December 10am – 5pm / Sunday 9 December noon – 4pm. Entry: £2.50. Under 16 free.

On Saturday 1 December, Bedford will be celebrating Small Business Saturday. GCH Fishmongers on Newnham Street are offering 10% discount on any Christmas orders placed on the day, while Ready Steady Roll in Sharnbrook will be offering a free slice of cake with every game purchased. Made in Bedford Christmas Artisan Fair

The twice yearly Made in Bedford Artisan Fair is at the Corn Exchange and Harpur Suite on Sunday 2 December from 10am – 4pm. Buy from a huge range of stalls featuring Bedford’s best local artists, craftspeople and producers. Top up on festive cheer with some homemade mulled wine accompanied by carol singers and musicians. A fabulously festive day out for all the family. Admission is free!

Bedford Corn Exchange, St Paul’s Square, MK40 1SQ

Over at the Higgins on 2 December, kick off Christmas in the Cultural Quarter. The Museum will be open from 11am with lots of family-friendly activities, including drop-in decoration workshops and a brilliant interactive Christmas story session in Cecil Higgins’ house with Punchdrunk Theatre’s Katy Balfour. Plus, we’ve had a tip off that it might even snow…

Santa’s Grotto

Santa Claus will once again be taking up residence in his Grotto in Bedford’s Harpur Centre. You’ll find him in Unit 13 (next to SuperCuts) from Saturday 24 November. Price includes meeting Santa and a gift on arrival (£4 per child / £7.50 for two children / £10 for three children and £13.50 for four children).
