The artist, whose zesty paintings were picked for the BAFTA award winning “Absolutely Fabulous” shows this year, is sending her latest work to Cambridge.
Opening at the Lynne Strover Gallery on December 1st, Henrietta Dubrey’s abstract oil paintings form part of an accomplished line up of contemporary art works that will be on show there. This includes Dubrey's newer figurative series named "Scorcher" and “Looking Back”.
Noted for their ability to "energise" a room, Dubrey's wild and wonderful canvases have been gaining a higher public profile, particularly over the last 18 months, and not just for recharging the interiors of Edi's house.
Dubrey, a Cornwall based painter, was the first to be chosen for the artists’ showcasing series at the prestigious Skandium design stores In London last year.
It was there that she was spotted by a BBC set designer from Absolutely Fabulous who sent five of her paintings to be used in three special 20th anniversary editions of the programme (2012/2011).
Dubrey's paintings have been taken up by the fashion label COS and her canvases are to be found in private and public collections across the country.
Entrepreneur and art collector Jeremy Mogford says Dubrey’s artworks are a great favourite at the Old Bank Hotel, Oxford where his collection is shown. He predicted Dubrey as a “future ‘great’ ” some years ago and advises she is an artist to “follow”.
Of her "Absolutely Fabulous" experience Henrietta Dubrey says :
" I have always absolutely loved ‘Ab Fab’; this really was a ‘Dream Come True’, coincidentally the title of one of the works chosen, and I still can’t believe it every time I see my paintings on the walls with Edina, Patsy and a star-studded cast casually playing in front of them. "
On the Lynne Strover Gallery Dubrey says it "certainly has impact" and she credits Lynne as having "a very positive influence on helping me to communicate my work to a larger audience."
Lynne Strover says:
"I have followed Henrietta's work for more than ten years. I am delighted she is receiving growing
recognition in London’s art and design world and that a new audience in Cambridge will have the
chance to see how she has developed as an artist.”

Artist background notes: Originally from Sussex, Dubrey ,lives with her husband and three children and works from a studio at her home near St Just in Penwith, west of Penzance.
She took her degree at the Wimbledon School of Art and completed her education at the Royal Academy School with a Dip Lon RA in 1992. The move to Cornwall after five years in Normandy took Dubrey back to the scenes of her long childhood holidays and an artistic area that has continued to be such a vital inspiration to her creative process Her artist's statement is as follows…."The inspiration for my work is as diverse as the experiences of life itself. It is only on completion of a piece of work that the inspiration becomes evident. The first and final stages of each painting often bear little relation to each other but they do interpenetrate. I never know or presume or predict the final outcome of a day's work. It is spontaneous from start to finish, this creates an edge to the work"
