The best pubs with roaring fires in Cambridge
There is nothing better than a roaring fire. Summer or winter, I always find an excuse to light a fire. I can hear you think; in the summer? Yes, of course! Sitting around an outdoor fire with a group of people is a great end to an evening. Telling stories, a hot drink or a nice glass of wine, it is one of the great pleasures in life.
Open fires are going through a big come back. A local entrepreneur in Castle Camps started creating amazing fire balls after a visit to the States. They are rather unique as you can create your own design. Having lived in Africa I opted for an African wildlife scene. These fireballs are now so popular that companies started copying them, but there is nothing like the real thing!
Cooking over fire has become trendy. It all started with fancy BBQ’s, but now the outside kitchens are catching on inspired by the outdoor living in warmer climates. The Big Green Egg is extremely popular both for slow cooking, smoking or a BBQ. Heston Blumenthal has even launched his own version, The 4K, inspired by the 4000-year tradition of Kamado-style and manmade clay cooking. A very clever piece of kit.
Homemade pizzas are a must thing to do at the moment so a pizza oven is needed of course. I prefer baking off my pizzas in a wood burning oven. The burning wood gives it a perfect taste and I love watching the flames dancing behind the pizza and the big bubbles popping up created by the yeast on the edge of the pizza.
Watching fires like this, makes you want it to be winter again. Cuddling up around a roaring fire, warming your hands around a hot drink and feeling comfy. Not many houses have open fires anymore these days so a good excuse to venture out for a long walk and cosy up around a fire.
