With winter setting in, this month Cambridge Blogger Tracey Dean escapes the cold and heads to the warmth of the city’s art galleries. Here’s what’s in store for November…

Lawson Gallery

Situated opposite the prestigious Kings College, the Lawson Gallery is a framing gallery that stocks one off originals, prints and posters. Their extensive collection includes limited edition signed prints from world famous illustrators Quentin Blake and Roald Dahl and comic art featuring the highly popular Dennis the Menace, Dandy and Beano.


14 King’s Parade, Cambridge, CB2 1SJ

Byard Art is a beautiful contemporary art gallery located in the heart of the city centre. Their Christmas Cracker exhibition launches on the 19 November featuring work from over 50 artists and designers. With a huge variety of items on show including original paintings, sculptures, photography and handmade jewellery, it’s the perfect place to shop for some special Christmas gifts.

With over 25 years experience Cambridge Contemporary Art has established itself as one of the must see galleries in the city. Their Winter Show exhibition runs until 20 November featuring paintings from the likes of contemporary visual artist Rebecca Barnard, who travels England gathering images to paint including East Anglia where she was born.


Castle Galleries, 1st Floor, Grand Arcade, St. Andrews St, Cambridge, CB2 3BJ

Contemporary figurative artist David Rees makes a highly anticipated appearance at the Castle Art Gallery on 19 November. David grew up in Cambridge and his exhibition features captivating portraiture created using oil paint. His work has a fluid and expressive feel and his latest work includes pieces influenced by artist Marco Grassi and the Les Mis soundtrack.

Artique Gallery have an array of talented artists in their portfolio including leading UK artist Barry Hilton. On 16 November he will be unveiling his new exhibition of breathtaking landscape paintings inspired by moorland, rivers and harbours around his home in North England. His highly sought after paintings use intense colour, expressing emotion and atmosphere.
