Childhood memories bring family back to North Norfolk coast

Warning: This feature is now out of date

Fond childhood memories of seaside holidays on the idyllic North Norfolk coast prompted expats Rebecca and Nick Matthews to search for a holiday home to enjoy with their own children.

After visiting the enchanting coastal homes at Powell’s Yard, Brancaster, they fell in love with a property, which also happened to be next door to Rebecca’s neighbour from 30 years ago.

Rebecca Matthews, 37, currently living in Cologne, Germany, comments: “We travel back to England regularly and want our children to grow up with the same fond childhood memories we remember. We used to go camping or spend the summers in a holiday cottage along the Norfolk coast near the beach.

"I loved going crabbing or shrimping and spending days at the seaside with my friends and it’s a privilege to be able to do that with our children.”

Developed jointly by housebuilder Hill, a UK top 20 housebuilder and one of the leading developers in London and the south east of England, and Fleur Developments, the individually designed three and four bedroom, barn and cottage style homes perfectly balance rustic architecture with chic interiors.

Built using local materials, such as flint, red brick and natural clay, the properties seamlessly blend with their beachside surroundings, while boasting high standards of energy efficiency.

Rebecca’s childhood friend, who lived next door when growing up in Bury St Edmunds, has also bought within the development. Rebecca continues: “We are both really excited! After nearly 30 years we are neighbours again and in such a gorgeous location. There is such a nice mixture of holiday homeowners and permanent residents here, which makes for a great community.

“Our house combines the traditional architecture of the area, which I remember, but with all the modern conveniences and little luxuries you could want. I really like the glazing and open plan living downstairs as it allows for plenty of natural light through the whole ground floor of the house. There are also a range of energy efficient features, which are important to us, and a lovely garden.”

Powell’s Yard is ideally located to take advantage of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with 47 miles of the Norfolk Coast Footpath on its doorstep, as well as the renowned harbour and thriving fishing and sailing fraternity based in neighbouring Brancaster Staithe.

Nearby there are also several local pubs and fish restaurants, including the newly refurbished Ship Hotel, a village primary school and church.

Prices range from £630,000 for a three-bedroom house to £839,950 for a four-bedroom house with a garage.

The show house is now open from 10am to 5.30pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and bank holidays. For further information contact the show house on: 01328 730 500 or visit: www.hill.co.uk
