Christmas Light Switch-ons in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire

Celebrate the start of the festive season in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire with a Christmas light switch-on 

Ampthill, 17 November, from 2.30pm

Expect lots of festive fun in the Market Square including a visit from Father Christmas, fun fair rides, refreshment stalls and street entertainment.

Hertford, 22 November, 3.30pm-8pm


The annual Christmas Gala event will take place on Friday in the town centre with Christmas markets, street entertainment, performance stage, petting reindeer and stalls, Christmas grotto and Christmas tree light switch on.

Knebworth, 22 November, 5-8.30pm

Taking place at St Martins Church, there will be lots of festive entertainment to get you into the Christmas spirit.  

St Albans, 24 November

The light switch on and entertainment will begin the city’s Christmas shopping season.

Harpenden, 24 November, 12-6pm

A spectacular event in Harpenden High Street, encompassing a carnival procession, charity stalls, a Farmers Market, fairground rides and festive shopping, all in the lead up to the switch on at 5pm.

Hitchin, 30 November, 12-6pm

For the first time, the light switch on will take place on a Saturday. There will be festive entertainment for children, choirs, Santa Parade and a special guest will be turning on the lights.

Ware, 6 December, 6pm-10pm

Enjoy the annual Dickensian event, which will feature the Christmas light switch on.

Olney, 8 December, 10am-4pm

Taking place in conjunction with the hugely popular Dickens of Christmas event, there will be a whole day of festive fun.
