Discover the best of Hertfordshire

Rich in history, the towns of Hitchin and Letchworth make for an enjoyable summer visit…

Visit Hitchin

With its stylish bistros, independent shopping scene and of course the famous Lavender fields, Hitchin is a great summer destination. Take a stroll around the town and enjoy its beautiful heritage and architecture before heading to some of its most popular attractions. Hitchin plays host to one of the most beautiful gardens in England. Nestled in Cadwell Farm are acres and acres of fragrant Hitchin Lavender, open between June and September. There is over 25 miles of lavender rows for visitors to wander through.

Experience history at The British Schools Museum. The classrooms are furnished and equipped to show the history of elementary education from 1810 to 1969 and there’s hands-on activities such as pen dipping in an inkwell, writing in a sand tray or on slate, and playing with early toys, games, and puzzles.

Things to do in Letchworth

The new Discover Letchworth centre opens in late June, offering a vibrant gateway to the town for visitors and the local community alike. Located at the One Garden City building next to the picturesque Broadway Gardens, the centre is the place to find out information on a range of arts, culture and heritage events, local services and wellbeing activities, acting as a one stop shop for everything there is to see, do and know about the world’s first garden city.

The Discover Letchworth team are poised and ready to share their knowledge of the town as well as upcoming events and activities. Whether you want to take part in a walking trail to explore the garden city’s rich architectural heritage, or enjoy a show at Broadway Theatre, the team will be able to bring together a programme to suit your interests.
