East of England Arts Scene March 2018

I write this month whilst the wind is howling and a cold threat of frost and snow endeavours to invade the land. With no signs yet of spring, why not come out of the cold and enjoy the garden indoors at the wonderful Sculpt Gallery, Tiptree, Essex?

March is the month that this excellent gallery launches its annual calendar of events.  On 3rd March it reopens its doors, after a short winter break, and welcomes us to venture inside and enjoy the delights of its ‘Outside-In’ exhibition.

Arts Scene Group

Celebrating the inspired works of three featured artists, this exhibition sets out to explore the impact of sculpture on both inside and outside spaces.  It brings together the works of John Brown, Paul Harvey and Lucy Lutyens.

Paul’s beautiful sculptures in bronze, metal resins and marble resin reflect his passion for the Art Deco period. Harmoniously balanced shapes and lines produce stylised birds of grace and power. Exhibited widely across the UK, his work is sought after throughout the world. Developing two distinct lines of work Paul creates open-edition, long lasting pieces that are suitable for the garden and rare limited edition works in bronze. The latter can be viewed by appointment.

More akin to Art Nouveau in style are the stunning and serene, abstract sculptures by Lucy Lutyens. On a medieval farm near Colchester, Lucy lives and works finding her inspiration in the nature, wildlife and the old farm machinery that surrounds her. Lucy has exhibited regularly with the Sculpt Gallery since 2012 and has become a much admired addition to their superb catalogue of artists.

Complementing and completing the group, John Brown offers us further contemporary, stylized sculpture.  This time the focus is on the human form. Reminiscent of Henry Moore these figurative sculptures explore and express emotions and relationships.  Ranging from small maquettes to larger works, these wonderful stone, bronze and bronze resin pieces, can also be proudly placed both inside and out.

This warm and invigorating is a must for all lovers of three-dimensional art and with light refreshments being served all day, it will be a super outing for anyone with an eye and heart for the creative.
