Enjoy a Winter Getaway in Woburn

Things to do during a winter weekend break in Woburn.

Think of Woburn and for most the historic Abbey and adventurous attractions will come to mind. Home to Woburn Abbey, a Safari Park, Go Ape and popular family resort Centre Parcs, it’s clear to see why Woburn has established itself as a year-round tourist destination of the East, not a bad accomplishment for a small Georgian village.

Woburn is a wonderful location for a whimsical winter break featuring cosy pubs, reindeer and historic buildings adorned with twinkling lights. Wrap up warm, grab a coffee and wander from the village up to the 3,000 acres of deer park that leads to the Woburn Estate. Unfortunately, the Abbey and Gardens are closed for refurbishment until 2021, but you’re sure to see an abundance of deer grazing in the long grass.

Dating back to 969, the village itself has old world charm. Stroll through the streets admiring the Georgian buildings now home to fashion boutiques such as the stylish Berchielli Boutique, homeware stores and coffee shops.

Discover more about the history of the area with a visit to the Heritage Centre located in Old St Mary’s Church on Bedford Street. Browse the museum and pick up local tips at the Tourist Information point.

For a festive dining stop by The Woburn Hotel which will be hosting a three-course lunch from 2-24 December and seasonal afternoon tea from 1-29 December (excluding Christmas and Boxing Day).

On New Year’s Eve there’s glitz and glamour at The Sculpture Gallery, priced £120 per person. The black tie evening starts with canopies and Champagne, followed by a four course dinner and evening of dancing with music of all genres from five piece band ‘Blue Rinse’.

For fine dining or a special occasion at any time of year, make a reservation at Paris House. Set in the deer park of the Woburn Estate the restaurant offers six and eight tasting options and an a la carte menu, each crafted using seasonal produce create beautifully presented dishes.
