Businesses lining up to join Essex’s first Big Weekend!
Excitement is building for the first ever Big Weekend in Essex from 1-2 April, when hundreds of residents will be able to visit some of the county’s finest tourist attractions for free.
Organised by Visit Essex, the Essex Big Weekend is designed to encourage residents to rediscover the amazing things to see and do in their home county – and to then spread the word about them.
The event will see attractions across the county donating free tickets or experiences for residents to use on 1-2 April 2017.
Residents can bid for available tickets to as many attractions as they wish from 16 February at www.essexbigweekend.co.uk, and two tickets per household will be allocated by ballot to the lucky winners (some family tickets will also be available).
Dozens of attractions have already donated free tickets for the fun-filled weekend, including Barleylands Farm, 360 Play Basildon, Rye Karting, Rope Runners, Adventure Island and Colchester Zoo. Activities include family days out, adrenaline fuelled experiences and tours.
Visit Essex Tourism Marketing & PR Manager Carol Jolly said: “It’s very easy to forget or miss entirely the wonderful and heart-warming attractions – big and small – right on our doorstep. We want people to use this weekend to get out and about in Essex and spread the word about the fantastic destinations and visitor attractions we have to visit, for all ages.”
The Big Weekend is just one event in a series of campaigns being planned by Visit Essex in 2017 to strengthen the county’s tourism offer.
Big Weekend is also part of the national English Tourism Week celebrations (25 March – 2 April), organised by Visit England, to highlight the importance of tourism as one of the fastest growing sectors in the national economy.
