Secret Norfolk: Family friendly holidays in Norfolk

So, Norfolk was recently voted as one of the top destinations for family friendly holidays by the AA. Not surprising in my eyes, as this beautiful county boasts a stunning stretch of coastline, great accommodation options and fun family attractions.

North Norfolk Coast

Need convincing? Here are just a few reasons why your family would love a break in Norfolk…

Where to go…

From Norwich city centre, the coast is anything from a 45 minute to just over an hour’s drive away, depending on traffic and which beach you head to. However, from the arcades at Great Yarmouth to the seemingly endless stretch of sand at Holkham, there is a beach for everyone!

Bored of sun, sea and sandcastles? Norfolk is also home to Roaar! Dinosaur Adventure, Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, Pleasure Beach, Go Ape, Banham Zoo, BeWILDerwood, the SeaLife Centre, Thursford Collection, a dry Ski slope, castle, many museums, farms, RSPB reserves, steam trains and much, much more. Phew! Your days will be full trying to fit it all in!

Where to stay…

On a budget? If you love to camp and want to stay on the coast, you can’t go wrong with Deepdale Farm, which is both family and eco-friendly. Inland, but still only a 10 minute drive to the coast, you’ll find the woodland campsite Kelling Heath. Lastly Whitlingham Broad campsite is perfect for the more adventurous. Close to the city centre, you’re also a stone’s throw away from the activity centre where you can hire a kayak for a paddle along the Broads.

If self-catering is more your style then Sheringham Cottages (www.sheringhamcottages.com) have a number of properties in the quaint seaside town to choose from and offer free, unlimited use of Pinewoods Leisure Centre to all their guests. Or, if you fancy something a little different, why not mix coast and countryside together with a stay at Wood Farm Cottages? Located on a working arable farm not far from Holt, they’re both pet and child friendly with some great facilities for keeping the children entertained on site (www.woodfarmnorfolk.co.uk).
