He’s the guy that’s always there for you, so put a smile on his face and treat him to a special day out on Father’s Day, 17 June. Luckily, the East of England is full of exciting activities. Whether your dad loves adventure or prefers a leisurely pace, we’ve got plenty of ideas to keep him entertained…

Go-karting

Let dad express his competitive side with a race around the track. Hop in a go-kart alongside him and feel the speed. There’s a number of go-karting tracks available for open practice sessions or events such as Red Lodge Karting in Bury St Edmunds, Wildtracks in Newmarket, the Anglian Karting Centre in Swaffham and Teamworks Karting in Letchworth.

Classic Wings

Take to the skies

Only for the brave, take to the skies with a flight experience by Classic Wings at IWM Duxford. There are a number of flight experiences available including a sightseeing tour of London or Cambridge, trial flying lesson in the famous Tiger Moth or feel the power in the Harvard. If your dad would prefer to keep two feet on the ground, the air museum provides a fascinating insight into aviation history, while ‘The Inside View: The Lancaster’ tour on 16 June, allows you to step behind the ropes with an expert guide and explore the iconic Avro Lancaster.

Fishing fun

If your dad is a keen fisherman, pack him up a picnic and book him a day of fishing at Clavering Lakes. Located in the beautiful countryside of North West Essex, there is a specimen carp lake, match lake and two silver fish lakes, well stocked with crucian, common and mirror carp, roach, perch, tench, rudd and bream. Enjoy the peace and quiet of this prime fishing spot, and finish with tea and cake at the on-site restaurant overlooking the lake or book lunch at nearby Cricketers pub.

Beer the best

What dad doesn’t love a beer now and then? For a fun day out, visit the Father’s Day beer tasting Sunday lunch at Woburn Hotel on 17 June. There will be a selection of beers to try and a family quiz followed by a two course traditional Sunday lunch and dancing.

If you fancy catching some fresh air, take a stroll along the riverside in Woodbridge followed by lunch at The Crown. Perfect for a Father’s Day family dinner, all dads receive a free pint and children aged up to 12 can eat free from the kid’s menu between 6-7pm.

All board

Find your water legs with a day hire boat on the beautiful Broads. A fun family day out, let dad put on his captain hat and command the waters for a day of adventure. Stop for lunch at one of the many waterside pubs, visit the St Benet’s Abbey ruins at Ranworth Broad or explore one of the many nature reserves.

MotorFest, Essex

If your dad is car-obsessed then he’ll love MotorFest. Taking place at Barleylands, near Billericay in Essex, on 17 June, the day is non-stop entertainment for the whole family. Vintage displays, DJs, live music, dancers, motorbike football, stunt displays, tasty food, pop ups and of course motors galore – hot rods, classics, customs, choppers, scooters and more! Adult tickets cost £7.99 online, £12.50 on gate, children aged 0-15 priced £4.99, online £8.50 on gate and under 10s free.
