First Light Festival returns to Lowestoft’s sandy South Beach this June, with a free 24-hour programme of music, performance, arts, activities and experiences! As the only beach-based festival around, First Light celebrates one full cycle of the midsummer sun in Britain’s most easterly town, with non-stop action across the weekend.

First Light has something for everyone, with this year’s hugely eclectic line up featuring pioneers of drum & bass, scientists at the forefront of climate change, and hands-on activities for little artists of the future.

Live music highlights include jazz legend Andy Sheppard, street-soul newcomers Secret Night Gang and Congolese vocalist Juanita Euka, alongside lively DJ sets from LTJ Bukem, Les Spaine, Charlie Dark and Effy Mai.

If theatre, comedy and spoken word are more your thing, acclaimed poet Luke Wright has curated the First Word stage, which includes sets from Mark Thomas, Salena Godden, Elvis McGonagall and Jemima Foxtrot.

First Light’s huge line up of activities, workshops and talks for big and little kids alike ensures that there’s plenty to keep families happy. Explore the legends of giant squids and sharks, get immersed in an origami playground fantasy, or create your own kite and join in our mass fly-along finale.

If you’re in need of a break, the Wellbeing by the Waves area is the perfect spot to join one of the many free movement and meditation classes, allowing you to sink your toes into the sand and take a big, deep breath.

Alongside the free programme of 134 events, First Light are also offering a limited number of ticketed experiences, including a cinema on the sands, beach feasts from top chef Nicola Hordern, and beach camping across the weekend.

First Light Festival takes place in the heart of Lowestoft, so while you’re there, be sure to check out all the amazing things this idyllic yet vibrant seaside town has to offer. See you on the beach?
