The sun is shining so it’s time to get those kids out of the door and enjoying some of the region’s top outdoor attractions. Burn off some energy and try out a new adventure.

Children’s activities in Bedfordshire

Canoe Trail is a family run business in Bedfordshire running canoe tours for the whole family. Enjoy an authentic rural adventure on the beautiful river. After a little bank tuition, hop in a Canadian Canoe or a kayak and paddle your way through stunning countryside, for a half, full or two-day adventure. Pack a picnic and enjoy your day as a family in the open air.

Older kids won’t even notice they are exercising as they swing through the trees and climb ropes as part of the Go Ape Woburn High Ropes Adventure. Enjoy magical views over the elephant meadow as you zip through the trees and take on a variety of obstacles which test your strength, co-ordination and balance. Age 10+

Things to do with children in Cambridgeshire

Enjoy a new adventure in the centre of Cambridge with a self-guided treasure hunt! Simply download the map and solve the clues found on plaques, signs and buildings throughout the city.

Taking around 2.5 hours to complete, the kids will have great fun and be out in the fresh air, while you get to enjoy seeing areas of Cambridge you’ve probably never seen before.

Download the map here or order a copy to be delivered to you: https://www.treasuretrails.co.uk/things-to-do/cambridgeshire/cambridge-jesus-green?dowtk_top_button=

Take the kids for a bug hunt or bird hunt or just a run around at Wandlebury Country Park. On the Gog Magog Hills this beautiful countryside estate offers miles of walks through wildflower meadows and woodland with the odd sighting of the Highland cattle that graze there. Build a den, go for a hike or bring a picnic. You can also explore the Iron Age Hillfort and the 18th Century house, stables and gardens there.

Sports activities for children in Essex

It might not be top of mind in the summer, but now’s the time to get in your skiing and snowboarding practice at Brentwood Park Ski & Snowboard Centre. Have fun trying to ski or snowboard as a family or sign the kids up for lessons from qualified instructors. You’ll be ready for the slopes next winter and have a great time practising.

Radical Bikes in Chelmsford is a must-visit for the BMX or bike obsessed teen. They can enjoy dirt jumps on their range of jumps from tiny to competition sized, practice new moves on the foam pit and then progress up to the resi ramp. There’s also a variety of man-made and natural Trials obstacles which are constantly updated and cater for everyone from beginners to experts.  BMXers can also enjoy a range of ramps, boxes and rails.

Outdoor activities in Hertfordshire

Head over to Top Golf in Watford for an experience the whole family will enjoy. Make your way around the 18-hole adventure course surrounded by bubbling ponds, flowing streams and gigantic rocks and see who can come out as family champion.

Open all summer, The Priory Lido in Ware is a great place for the whole family to spend a sunny day (or a colder one, as the pool is heated). Enjoy playing Marco Polo in the fresh air with the kids.

Things to do in Norfolk with children

Can’t decide what sport to do outside with the kids? Why not do them all? Head over to Whitlingham Adventure and try a range of activities as part of their Wildlings Club for 8-16 year olds. From forestry survival skills to kayaking, there’s an outdoor activity that everyone will enjoy.

With so many beautiful open spaces and of course, beaches to choose from in Norfolk, why not head to your local one and enjoy a day of frisbee, cricket or just playing in the sea? We love Holkham beach for its wide open beaches and unspoilt vistas.

Fun things to do in Suffolk with children

If the kids haven’t tried horse riding yet, then let them have a go with a visit to the Valley Farm Equestrian Leisure in Woodbridge. Kids can have riding lessons, western riding lessons or join the various different pony clubs. Once they’ve started, they’ll be hooked.

Who doesn’t love a Farm where you can pet the animals and wear out the little ones in the in the process. Easton Farm Park, near Woodbridge in Suffolk, is the prefect place to let the youngsters play enthusiastically in the play areas and explore the 30 acre Green Trail.

With heated indoor play areas and the Barmy Barn cafe you can, given the classically unpredictable British weather, retreat from outside, sit back relax and chat with your friends whilst the children fire foam balls in the air cannon arena!

With so many activities to do outside, there’s no excuse to spend this summer on the sofa. Get out there and enjoy some exercise in the fresh air.
