It’s time to get practicing your pancake flipping with the return of the Olney Pancake Race.

Olney’s historic pancake race returns this month on 13 February. No longer just a race, the event features a pancake breakfast, a kids race, raffle and ‘kidzone’ marquee run by Friends of Olney Library.

Olney pancake race

The day kicks off with celebrity TV chef Lesley Water hosting the popular Pancake Breakfast at 8am in the Teflon Marquee. This year she is joined by John from The Bell and Bear and Ollie from Wildleaf who will be helping to cook up a tasty breakfast. Entry is by ticket only and cost £8.50 per person, but you’ll need to be super quick to book, tickets are selling fast.

After breakfast it’s on to the Children’s Race at the side of the Market Place at 10am, which is followed by the main event at 11.55am. Join the growing crowds as the 25 runners begin to assemble along the start line at the Bull Hotel. At 12.15pm the runners make their way to the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul for the annual Shriving service and prize giving.

Throughout the day there’s the chance to purchase the Pancake Day raffle tickets with the winning prize a £500 bicycle from Olney’s 2Pedalz. The draw will take place in the Church Hall at 8pm.

The day comes to an end at 7pm as the international winner of the pancake race is announced via a web link with Liberal in the Church Hall.

Bringing together the community, supported by local business, this historic event is one not to be missed. If you’re attending share your snaps with us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/eastlifemag or via Instagram @wordpress-203259-1413336.cloudwaysapps.commag
