intu Lakeside’s Personal Stylist, Carlene Noel, shares her tips on how to shop the January sales and make the most of what’s on offer
“We all love a good bargain and I think that it is fair to say that it’s easy to get carried away and impulse buy when you’re surrounded by over 250 stores offering great discounts. I recommend setting yourself a budget before you start. Alternatively, be strict with yourself, write a list and focus on those items.
So when is the best time to buy?
Although, you will probably have the urge to buy as soon as the items go on sale, I always recommend shopping in the middle of January or at the end. This is because by then other customers will have returned their impulse buys from the start of the month and the prices are likely to have dropped too. The best time to hunt the shops is during the quietest times, either first thing in the morning or just before closing.
If you’re off on a shopping spree then it’s important to make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes and clothes that are easy to slip on and off. My other tip for comfort while shopping the sales is to take regular food/coffee breaks to replenish and restore energy.
A sale is a great time to think ahead
Can you begin preparing for this Christmas and get some gifts in advance to save yourself some money? Perhaps you’ve got some weddings or birthdays coming up during the year and can find the perfect present at a discounted price. The centre’s department stores, House of Fraser and Debenhams are the perfect place to stock up on gifts due to their wide selection of products and amazing sales.
It’s also a good time to think ahead for yourself. Timeless pieces such as a leather jacket from All Saints or a handbag from Choice are excellent items to buy while discounted as they’re guaranteed to stay in trend from season to season.
And finally, if you like it…buy it! It’s important to treat yourself however, if you change your mind then most places will offer a full refund, always check the store’s sale returns policies first.”
