Olney Pancake Race 2016
This year the Olney Pancake Race returns bigger than ever before with some new additions to the line up. Now in its 67th year, the friendly competition takes place on Tuesday 9 February.
The festivities begin with Lesley’s Pancake Breakfast between 8.30am – 10am. A new concept for 2016, celebrity TV chef Lesley Waters will be cooking a delicious breakfast alongside local chefs in the marquee on the Market Square. On the north side of the Market Place the Children’s Race will begin at 10.30am.
It’s then onto the main event. Runners will take their position at the start line outside The Olney Deli at 11.45am, before sprinting off with their pancakes at 11.55am.
At 12.15 a Shriving service will be held at the Parish Church. Another new addition is the ‘Ready Steady Olney Cooking Competition’. Contestants have been sending ideas for sweet and savoury pancake fillings, which Lesley will cook up with the help of two local chefs. She will then announce the winner of each category. This event takes place between 12.15pm – 2.20pm and includes the Pancake Tossing Competition.
The fun comes to a close at 7pm as the international winner of the pancake race is announced via a web link in the Church Hall.
