With so many fantastic family festive events this year, it can be hard to prioritise, so we’ve done the hard work and rounded up some of the most magical Christmas events for kids across the East of England.
Christmas events in Bedfordshire
This Christmas take the kids to enjoy a treat they won’t forget as they enjoy some time with Mother Christmas and Father Christmas at Wardown Museum. Listen to a Christmas story with Mother Christmas, meet Father Christmas and enjoy a special treat from under the tree.
Luton Library Theatre will be featuring a festive show for the whole family, ‘Santa’s Marvellous Magical Toyshop’ from 12 – 29 December this year. Packed with catchy songs, beautiful puppets and glittery surprises, help Santa find a new trainee elf in time for Christmas.
Christmas events for children in Cambridge
Cambridge’s very own winter wonderland returns to the city on the 16 November until 5 January. The North Pole features a covered ice rink, so you can skate in any weather. Once you’ve finished head on over to their alpine bar and treat the kids to hot chocolate and marshmallows, while adults can enjoy a mulled cider.
Winter lights are returning once again to Anglesey Abbey. Combining a magical mix of light, colour, sound and of course, nature, this festive event sees visitors following a trail through the abbey that will delight children of all ages.
Christmas events for families in Essex
With cheeky elf entertainers, real snow and plenty of festive surprises, the Father Christmas Experience at Marsh Farm is always popular. Head to the Elf Academy, then meet Mother Christmas and help her decorate gingerbread before reaching Father Christmas’ Grotto and a final stop in the toy workshop to make a special furry friend to take home.
Audley End Miniature Railway is a special place to visit at any time of the year, but particularly when it comes to Christmas, this little regional treat really comes alive. Take the Santa Express into the woods to meet Father Christmas in his magical winter wonderland. Adults, there’s even a treat for you, with mulled wine for sale in the Signal Box Café to warm you up.
Children’s Christmas events in Hertfordshire
Willows Activity Farm is once again putting on a Santa Spectacular for children. Kids can meet the big man himself, make a toy bear in the Create-A-Character workshop and decorate Christmas biscuits. Book early to avoid disappointment as this one always sells out quickly.
Open from November, Santa’s Grotto at the Magic of Christmas is a lovely experience for the kids. The largest Christmas shop in Hertfordshire will play host to the big man himself. Kids will receive a special gift along with a sticker and a personalised letter from Santa which will be emailed to you. It’s available to visit Saturday and Sunday through November and December.
Norfolk Christmas events for children
Head over to Dereham to experience The Polar Express. The magic of the much-loved festive film is recreated as an experience. Guests are immersed in the sights, sounds and intrigue of this Christmas story.
The magic of Thursford turns festive from 25 November as children can enjoy Santa’s Magical Journey. Journey past busy elves, penguins, polar bears and more. Meet the Snowman family and other fantasy characters and wander through the magical forest to reach Santa’s House. Booking is essential for this event. There will be a session on 24 November for children with additional needs.
Christmas events in Suffolk for families
Come and meet Santa at the Farmyard at The Suffolk Punch Trust. Visit Father Christmas in the stables, enjoy a hot chocolate in the café, meet the animals and enjoy everything the farm has to offer.
Children from 3 to 10 years old will enjoy a visit to Santa’s Workshop at Kersey Mill. Welcomed with a short Christmas story, children then head to Santa’s Workshop and enjoy various activities including making reindeer food, making crafts and helping to load the sleigh and singing with Santa.
