Norwich Eats: Battle of the Burger

Secret menus in Norwich. Zena Leech-Calton, cookery tutor and food writer, rounds up the best restaurants, food stalls and food stores in Norwich.

I love March mainly because it’s a triple family birthday celebration with no boundaries on what I can consume. Plus, I’m super savvy by previously losing weight to allow for the over consumption of all things food in Norfolk.

New Restaurants in Norwich

I’m really excited about two new openings this month.

The Gatherers, a European vegetarian plant based bar and restaurant. You’ll find cocktails, risotto’s, ragu’s, earthy soups & bravos with Norfolk ingredients and fresh veggies grown by the Gatherers.  You can find it on, 2 Muspole Street, Norwich NR3 1DJ.

Then there is Gonzo’s big brother up on the 1st Floor, 68 London Street. Norwich.

Brix and Bones; a steak house, focusing on good wine with an in-house butcher. They’ve even got Tam an amazing breakfast chef previously from Olives cooking up, what hopes to be, the best breakfast in Norwich.

We also have to welcome Two Magpies Bakery, who took over Timber Hill Bakery. A Suffolk success story with 3 other cafes plus a bake cookery school. Open from 8am – 5pm everyday starting with mighty fine pastries or brunch. You’ll get lost in their menu.

Ti-Amo, Norwich Market

Norwich Market Food News

There’s two newbies to try.

‘Feast’ offering Yorkshire pudding wraps plus they do something comfortingly British with Custard.

Ti amo – meaning ‘I love you’ in Italian, offers European goodies like pasta, garlic dough balls, Peri Peri chicken, parmigiana and veggie sides. I can’t wait to try their ravioli.

Secret Menu Norfolk

My free foodie promotion continues with 100 off menu dishes being offered all over Norfolk. If we are talking just Norwich there is nine goodies on the market including a UFO pizza, five burgers including a vegan duck plus a double bubble, an apple bomb, a cookie dough, a Jay Jay, a Norfolk miso plus tons more all over our fine city.

But to find out more you’ll have to click on to www.lovenorfolkfood.co.uk for the full list on who’s taking part – just quote “Secret Menu Norfolk” when ordering until the end of March. With new ones being added for the rest of 2020.

Foodie Shop Openings in Norwich

Who doesn’t like Chocolate, well a few people which is nearly as mad as not liking bananas!

So, to join Dotti a chocolate shop that opened in November last year on Bedford Street, whom by-the-way, sell amazing hand-crafted bean to bar chocolates along with real hot chocolate. Their best-selling chocolate is made with lemon & Norfolk Gin.

We now have Montezuma opposite Norwich Market, not local but British and independent, run by a couple in Sussex who focus on great quality chocolate bars and recyclable packaging. They even do an extra dark 100% coco range which contorts your face like when you suck lemons! It sure has a bitter kick.

On Saturday 28 March, Clear Company, takes over the Forum in Norwich with all sorts of activities, events, music and art, along with Norfolk produce stalls and pop up Norfolk caterers, including Deb’s Mexican Tamales and Salah’s Egyptian street food. Clear Company is a local charity who’ll be forming an enterprise centre in Norwich in the near future.

Visit from 10am for a taste of things to come.

Cuppie Hut, Norwich Market

Well I’m full up just writing this, I better have a little nap until next month when I’ll be talking more all things food in Norwich Eats.

And if you fancy a teaser – two award winning chefs are opening up a chicken shop. One lucky food biz will be winning #BattleoftheBurger and somebody’s 10!!
