The best vineyard tours in East Anglia

To celebrate English Wine Week, 27 May – 4 June, we’ve listed the best vineyard tours in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex

We don’t often need an excuse to pour ourselves a glass of wine, but with English Wine Week taking place later this month there’s no better reason to do so. We know that our region serves up some of the best meat and seafood around, but did you know nestled among the countryside the region’s vineyards are rustling up wines that rival those in Europe?

“East Anglia is fast gaining a reputation for its ability to ripen grapes and the most prominent variety, Bacchus, which produces aromatic white wines similar in style to a New Zealand Sauvignon blanc, is becoming recognised on a world stage,” explains Ben Witchell, owner of Flint Vineyard in Earsham.

He and his wife Hannah moved to Norfolk from Beaujolais in 2015 where Ben had been working as a winemaker, to begin their new venture in partnership with local farmer Adrian Hipwell. Thanks to the sheltered and sunny slopes of the Waveney Valley the vineyard is producing one of the best Bacchus in the region.

But don’t just take our word for it, try it for yourself. The vineyard will open its doors to the public for the first time on 1 May. In fact, there’s no better way to sample East Anglian wines than by experiencing it for yourself. If you’re looking for a day out or to try something new this summer, here are our picks of vineyard tours:
