Retirement Village Opens in Newport, Essex

Debden Grange is the area’s newest private retirement village, now taking shape in Newport, Essex.

cottages

It is the second village from the Retirement Villages Group portfolio in the county. Reputed to be the pioneer of this increasingly popular lifestyle model, the company now has 16 villages across the UK, the oldest being in Surrey and dating back 35 years.

Reservations for the first seven cottages (ready to move into now) are already being taken. Following on, will be further cottages, apartments, a central clubhouse, and care home, due to open in 2020.

This will be a ‘village within a village’, for Newport, adding another dimension to the local community, as well as bringing a range of new jobs to the area.

The stamp of a retirement village is the community it creates. For the older generation, many who may be living alone, it offers a social fabric and togetherness – something that happens quite naturally through residents as they form friendships, set up clubs and activities in the village.

This is where the central clubhouse comes into its own – at Debden Grange it will include its own restaurant and bar, library, hair salon, shop, meeting rooms and lounge – making it the heartbeat of the village.

A team of staff will manage the village including maintenance of the grounds and landscaping and all communal areas, leaving residents with the opportunity to relax and enjoy the environment and the facilities.

Tenure options

Retirement villages are becoming increasingly popular with retirees who want a hassle-free new home without any of the upkeep of an old property, and no garden to tend to.

Better still, new properties in villages such as Debden Grange are available to rent. This means buyers have access to the equity from their house sale and also benefit from not having to pick up a hefty stamp duty payment.

They still have access to all the same village facilities and benefits but without having to make such a long-term commitment.

“The tenure landscape is definitely changing for retirees who want flexibility and freedom to be in control of their destiny,” explained Sarah Burgess, group sales and marketing director for Retirement Villages Group.

Property styles

A range of modern two bedroom Beaufort cottages comprise open plan living/dining area connecting to the kitchen, a downstairs double bedroom, separate shower room while upstairs is a spacious master bedroom with en-suite and plenty of storage.

Apartments feature a range of styles offering modern open plan living with one or two bedrooms.

Arrange a viewing

If you want to know more about Debden Grange, visit the marketing suite in Rose & Crown Walk, Saffron Walden (open Mon-Sat) or call 01799 243888.
But better still, you can now visit the village itself. Part of the scheme has been made available for viewing and includes a luxury cottage show home. Appointments to view are Fridays 10am-5pm. For more information, visit www.debdengrange.co.uk

Further villages

Essex is also home to a more established retirement village from this company. Moat Park in Great Easton is a smaller community but with the same private facilities. It currently has new cottages and a small selection of pre-owned apartments available. Visit: www.retirementvillages.co.uk
