The Rupert Brooke has long been one of the hottest drinking spots outside of Cambridge. The pub and restaurant recently had a makeover and welcomed head chef, Lewis Ryan to its kitchen.
The interior updates move the establishment away from the gastropub vibe and creates an edgy dining space. Bold and vibrant tapestry, brightly painted walls and hanging plants adorn the bar and restaurant. More city chic than country pub, The Rupert Brooke, owned by The Chestnut Group, is the kind of place you head to for dinner or drinks after a long working week or for something a little extra.
Lowkey chit chat and the clinking of glassware was the soundtrack to our dinner. The menu features British classics; think fish cakes, burger, steaks and chicken. There are gluten free options and vegetarian dishes too, plus a mini menu for little ones.
Desserts are classic with sticky toffee pudding, homemade shortbread, brownie, lemon tart and a cheeseboard, as tempting offers.
The pretty courtyard and roof terrace are perfect for balmy evenings during the summer, but it’s the stylish garden tipi that lures in diners during cooler days. Decked out with twinkly lights, faux fur blankets, candles and flamed heaters, the outdoor dining experience was added post-lockdown. If you’re looking to embrace the cosy, country feeling post afternoon walk, it ticks all the boxes. The pub is dog-friendly too!
