Christmas Fayre and Market, 29 Nov

The fayre kick starts the town’s festive celebrations with a day of stalls and entertainment from 10am to 5pm. Acts such as Capoeira, Hyperfusion and the Wimbish Military Wives to name a few will entertain the crowds before the switch-on of the Christmas lights at 4.15pm. At around 4pm Father Christmas will appear in the Market Place accompanied by the Mayor, Cllr Heather Asker.



Radwinter Christmas Festival, 28-29 Nov

Up to 20 trees will be beautifully decorated by local and groups and on show at the St Mary Virgin Church in Radwinter. Music and refreshments will be available.


Victorian Christmas at Audley End House & Gardens, 28-29 Nov & 5-6 Dec

Where better to celebrate the spirit of Christmas than in the grand house at Audley End. Help celebrate the festive season the Victorian. Step back in time to the 1800s and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of a Victorian Christmas.

The Santa specials at Audley End Railway draw visitors from far and wide. Renowned in the region as one of the best festive activities for children expect a morning or afternoon of smiling faces from the little ones. Take the Santa Express into the woods to visit Father Christmas and his Elves at his woodland Grotto.The event will take place until every weekend in December and everyday from 16 – 24 December.

Christmas Market, 4 Dec

The Market Square will be alive with Christmas cheer as the crowds gather to browse and buy an array of festive gifts, crafts and local produce from 9am to 8.30pm.


Late Night Shopping, 4 Dec 

An annual evening of fun, with shops remaining open until 8.30pm, market and charity stalls lining the central streets, entertainers, Father Christmas and his sleigh, and a Christmas Gift Fair in the Town Hall. Tel: 01799 524002


Christmas Gift Fair, 4 – 6 Dec 

Great gifts on sale, in aid of the Mayor’s Appeal for Muscular Dystrophy at Saffron Walden Town Hall. The afir will be open until 9pm on Friday to coincide with late noght shopping and 10am – 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.


Decorate Saffron Walden Museum’s Christmas Tree, 5 Dec

Create decorations for the tree, and one to take home. Drop in from 11am – 1pm or from 2pm to 4pm. Normal entry fees apply – children must be accompanied by an adult. Tel: 01799 510333

A special evening of choral music celebrates Christmas in style, featuring the world renowned BBC Singers with their Chief Conductor David Hill, along with the popular brass quintet Onyx Brass. The main focus of the evening is a semi-staged performance of Dylan Thomas’s popular prose poem “A Child’s Christmas in Wales”. This nostalgic and humorous account of Christmases long ago follows a sparkling first half performance of favourite carols and seasonal music, including Ding Dong Merrily, The Twelve days of Christmas, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire

Christmas Carol Service at St Mary’s Church, 20 Dec

All welcome. Begins at 6.30pm.
