Secret Norfolk: Life in a Fine County

Along with the change in weather comes a fantastic change in local produce. And, there is nowhere finer to enjoy a bit of autumnal comfort food than in Norfolk. With a whole new range of seasonal food to enjoy, I’ve rounded up some of the best food and drink events happening in the county this October…

5-6 October – Oktoberfest, Eaton Park, Norwich

Ok, so this isn’t regional local produce but there will be a huge selection of traditional German foods – think sausages, pretzels & bier! www.oktoberfestnorwich.co.uk

6 October – Harfest, Norwich Cathedral

A free, family event in Norwich City Centre; bringing the farm to the city and celebrating all things harvest. Expect a farmers market, live entertainment, children’s activities and more. rnaa.org.uk/harfest

13 October – Porkstock, Norfolk Showground

A free, family-friendly festival, Porkstock celebrates Norfolk food and drink whilst raising as much money as it can for Nelson’s Journey. The fun continues into the evening with a good old-fashioned ‘knees-up’! www.porkstock.co.uk

14 October – Apple Day, Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse

This Gressenhall tradition celebrates the best of autumn with all things appley: pressing, tasting, buying and naming! Enjoy live entertainment and music, meet local craftsmen and artists and buy local produce. Tel: 01362 860563 | www.events.museums.norfolk.gov.uk

17 October – Parade of Puddings, Assembly House, Norwich

Part of the Assembly House Food Festival which runs throughout September, October and November, David Clayton celebrates his love of puddings with a selection of Great British Puddings. Tel: 01603 626402 | www.richardhughescookeryschool.co.uk/classes/type/food-festival-2018

22-27 October – Norwich Beer Festival, St Andrews Hall

This fantastic annual event draws big crowds with its great selection of bottled and cask ales, beers, ciders and perries. Try some of the finest beer brewed in East Anglia, along with continental beers. www.norwichcamra.org.uk/festival/ticket18.htm

29 Oct to 9 Nov – Norfolk Restaurant Week

Sample those restaurants you have always wanted to try, or revisit existing favourites, all at incredibly tempting prices… Take a look at the website to find out which restaurants are participating. www.norfolkrestaurantweek.co.uk
