Secret Norfolk: Life in a Fine County
by Nicole Ranaweera
Norwich has some beautiful parks, perfect for a lazy summer-day picnic so why not enjoy the sun this August with my pick of the parks…
- Chapelfield Gardens
Just a short walk from the shops, Chapelfield Gardens is a hive of activity in the summer. It’s guaranteed to keep children of all ages busy plus there’s a great schedule of events in the summer that include free outdoor events hosted by Norwich City Council, bandstand concerts and the funfair.
Probably Norwich’s prettiest park, it’s popular with dog walkers, children and adults alike. Take a walk around the 80 acres to see the lily pond, bandstand and grade II rotunda, play some crazy golf or just picnic with friends.
- Earlham Park
For something slightly different to a traditional city park, embrace nature at Norwich’s largest riverside park. Earlham Park is located next to the University of East Anglia and connects with the UEA Broad, woods and the Sainsbury Centre. On warmer days expect to see children, adults and dogs splashing around in the shallow river.
Don’t miss…
Norwich City Council are once again hosting free events in various parks across the city this summer to help keep the kids entertained. With something each day, you’ll be sure to find something fun to do!
Neighbourhood Play Days
Expect a whole host of free children’s activities, including Punch and Judy, magic shows, face painting, games, hunting for treasure, circus skills, craft-making and pesky parrots. Running Monday-Thursday, 11-3pm.
Kids Outdoor Theatre
Watch re-imaginings of literary classics, favourite children’s tales and a dramatic circus story. Running each Friday throughout August.
