Summer entertainment for the whole family at Wrest Park
Summer is just around the corner and families who are looking for ways in which to keep the children entertained during the holidays need look no further than Wrest Park in Silsoe, Bedfordshire.
Open air theatre
The summer kicks off with an open air theatre production of Peter Pan by the Chapterhouse Outdoor Theatre Company on Friday 16 June. JM Barrie used to visit Wrest Park and was close friends with the family who lived there, which makes it extra special that visitors will be able to join Wendy, Michael and John Darling on their adventures with Peter, far away on the magical island of Neverland.
Father’s Day events
For those looking to spend a day out with dad for the Father’s Day weekend, the Father’s Day Pit Stop on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June will be just the ticket. Visitors can rev their engines for some wheel-y good fun as they enjoy fun and interactive family-friendly shows on the history of motor sport through the ages.
Music at Wrest Park
Wrest Park’s popular Music on a Sunday Afternoon events will be retuning in July and August, when the sound of brass bands will fill the air.
Children’s summer holiday activities
Monday 24 July sees the start of Wrest Park’s popular summer holiday activities – every week for five weeks a different event just for children will help keep families entertained throughout the school break. Events include Awesome Archaeology, Victorian Delights, Train the Troops, Fairy Finders and Victorian’s Worst Jobs.
Bank Holiday events at Wrest Park
Later in August the Bank Holiday Bands will be providing the backdrop to the bank holdiay weekend on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 August. Whether visitors are picnicking with friends, or taking a spring stroll, they’ll transported back in time with fantastic band players.
The summer season ends with another outdoor theatre performance, this time of Jane Eyre on Friday 1 September. The audience will be enthralled as they see young governess Jane Eyre arrive at the mysterious Thornfield Hall deep in the Yorkshire moors, meeting enigmatic Mr Rochester and so begining this most unforgettable of love stories.
