Secret Norfolk: Life in a Fine County

Bluebells – the flowers that are universally known to officially herald the arrival of Spring. Creating magical wonderlands in wooded areas, a Bluebell walk can be a fantastic way to rediscover the outdoors after a winter tucked up at home. Norfolk has some of the best floral displays in the county, so if you’re looking for a walk this April, you won’t go wrong with a wander around one of these woods below…

Blickling Hall

The famous National Trust property is one of Norfolk’s gems, but in springtime its surrounding woodland really comes alive as bluebells spring to life. Tie it in with a visit to the House and Gardens, or make a special trip – it’ll be worth it!

Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden

Fairhaven is beautiful at any time of year, but if you visit between 22 April – 12 May, you can also enjoy exclusive access to the neighbouring nature reserve to take in the sights of the 60 acres of bluebell woods.

Foxley Wood

Norfolk’s largest ancient woodland is simply spectacular in the spring. The woodland floor rolls out a magical blue carpet that stretches throughout.

Lower Wood Ashwellthorpe

Bluebells grace this ancient woodland during spring and this May, you can make a day of it and enjoy a guided woodland walk followed by afternoon tea. Booking is essential.

Pigneys Wood

By the 450-year-old Oak tree is a wonderful woodland that boasts a fantastic bluebell carpet from mid-April onwards.

Wayland Woods

The alleged site of the ‘Babes in the Woods’ legend, this fairytale woodland is thick with beautiful bluebells come springtime. Find out more about the woods.

Thursford Wood

As well as some of the oldest oak trees in the county, you’ll also find an amazing floral display of blue in spring. Find out more.
