Traditional Christmas markets in Essex. Mulled wine, German inspired Christmas markets, Santa Grottos and a Christmas party for dogs – yes, really!

A traditional German fair market with stalls manned by teams in German costumes serving up German beer, Gluhwein, waffles, bratwurst and more tempting treats. Plus there’s gifts and decorations.

Channels Christmas Market, 22-24 November

Pratts Farm Lane, East Little Waltham, Chelmsford, CM3 3PT

There will be stalls offering original handmade gifts, vintage offerings and festive decorations will be on offer on the Friday from 12pm to 9pm. During the evening the Christmas vibe is amped up with live music, mulled wine and street food from 7.30pm to 9pm. Santa will be popping by on his sleigh at 1pm on 23 November and will be manning his grotto from 12 to 4pm. It’s not just for the kids though as they’ll be plenty of live music, festive food, mulled wine and more.

Dog christmas party at Channels

Doggie’s Christmas Party, 24 November, 10am-1pm and 1.30pm-4.30pm

It might sound barking, but due to last year’s success, the Doggie’s Christmas Party returns on 24 November. The party includes festive stalls with doggy gifts, a pet photographer, professional dog groomer and lots of doggie competitions. Festive fun for the whole family!

Saffron Walden Christmas Street Market, 24 November

Market Place, Saffron Walden, CB10 1HR

The Market Square in Saffron Walden will be turning into a winter wonderland for one day, the same day as the Christmas light switch on. From 11am visitors can shop the market. A free Santa’s Grotto will take place in front of Tourist Information Centre, a lantern parade will be marched through the town at 3.30pm leading up to the light switch on at 4pm. Food, drink, music and entertainment be creating a buzzing, festive atmosphere!

Christmas Frost Fair, 29 November – 1 December, 10am-5pm

Entry: Adults £6, Concessions £5 and Accompanied children(under 16) free of charge

With over 100 exhibitors offering shoppers an amazing choice of beautifully designed and handcrafted gifts, décor and fine foods, this is the perfect opportunity to purchase your presents for loved ones. Dressed as a traditional frost fair, local entertainers will perform through the day, plus Father Christmas is on hand to collect the all-important lists!

Maldon Vintage Christmas Fair, 28 November, 4pm-9pm

Enjoy the nostalgia for Christmas with this wonderful fair. The Christmas light switch on will kick start the festivities which include stalls selling crafts, gifts and food, a chance for little ones to meet Santa, festive entertainment, choirs and more. This year’s theme is the ‘Swinging Sixties’.

Leigh on Sea Winter Fayre, 7 December

A small fair created to support and help local businesses, community groups and charities. There will be a selection of gifts and festive items for sale.
