Have a day out to remember this summer with one of these great events taking place in Essex.

Essex Outdoor Cinema, 1 June – 28 September

Chelmsford, Upminster & Hainault

Get cosy under the night’s sky and watch star-studded films from Essex Outdoor Cinema at a number of Essex locations. Films such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Dirty Dancing, Mamma Mia, Grease and the Greatest Showman to name a few will be popping up at RHS Garden Hyde Hall,Hainault Forest Country Park, Upminster Junior School and Coopers’ Company and Coborn School.

Young Children’s Festival, 15 June

Castle Park, Colchester


The festival will be providing arena displays, hands-on activities, sporting and craft workshops, free children’s clothes stall, tombola, tea tent and food stalls. A funfair plus a range of stalls providing information about services and signposting sources of support for parents and carers is set to make this event a great day.

Life Arts Wellbeing Festival, 15-16 June

Chelmsford City Racecourse, Chelmsford

Put your health first at the largest wellbeing event in the region. Yoga, live music, NHS health checks, pain relief workshops, mindfulness, meditation and more will be on offer at the Life Arts Wellbeing Festival. Visitors will be treated to a wide-range of free-of-charge activities, including cooking demos and talks from leading industry experts, to help boost their wellbeing.

This year’s event will have a wellness zone with a yoga studio where festival-goers will be able to enjoy yoga for pain and stress management, restorative yoga, pilates, hatha yoga, chair yoga, gong bath, drum circle, yoga flow and a family rave! There will also be a ‘Buddha Cave’ for meditation guidance classes, plus a relaxing ‘chill-out’ space. Tickets cost from £5 for adults, under 16s go free.

Leigh Folk Festival, 27-30 June

Leigh on Sea, Essex

A fabulous festival that draws visitors from far and wide. The festival brings together over 200 artists in music, poetry and dance across 20 venues.The festival is now in its 28th year.

Chelmsford Summer Beer and Ale Festival, 2-6 July

Admiral’s Park

Taste a great selection of beers and ales, dine on foods from around the world,  learn more with Podge’s Belgian beer tour and enjoy live entertainment.

3foot People Festival, 2 July

Hylands Park, Chelmsford

The hugely popular 3foot People Festival, aimed exclusively at pre-school children will feature a mix of music, theatre, storytelling, arts, crafts, sporting activities and play. Tickets go on sale on 10 April – you’ll need to be quick, they sell out fast!

Fling Festival, 6 July

Hylands Park, Chelmsford

The fun and creative festival for adults returns for a day of live music, cabaret, surreal theatre, circus acts and immersive arts and crafts, plus yummy food. Headliners include Oh My God! it’s the Church, Lee Nelson and Tony Law. This festival is best described as a playground for adults – don’t miss your chance to take part in the space hopper race!

Brentwood Festival, 12-14 July

Brentwood Centre, Doddinghurst Road

Rebranded as ‘Evoke’, each year the festival grows in popularity. Crowds gather at the Brentwood Centre, where they are treated to a weekend of live music, food, a festival market and fairground. This year’s headliners include Paul Young, Jessie J, Clean Bandit and more.Camping facilities are available, plus a VIP area, kids zone, street food, market stalls, beer tent and fun fair. Check out the unsigned stage which features some of the best up and coming bands in Essex.

Essex Festival of Food & Drink, 13-14 July

Cressing Temple, Braintree

A must visit for all foodies! Three stages will host chef demonstrations with local and celebrity chefs including Rosemary Shrager, there’s two outdoor food courts, over 150 producers, artisan foods, a children’s cookery school, tastings, live music and much more.

Maldon Carnival, 3 August

High Street, Maldon

Expect to see carnival queens, colourful floats, majorettes and marching bands proceed along the High Street at the Maldon Carnival.

Smoke & Fire Festival, 17-18 August

Promenade Park, Maldon

The Maldon Smoke and Fire Festival is a celebration of cooking using smoke and fire. You can expect to salivate at the aromas of smoked ribs cooked low and slow as you explore the festival’s other array of attractions. There will be live music, lots of food & drink to choose from, a trade market, extreme eating contests, Kansas City Barbecue Society Masters and much more.

Crafts in Focus, 23-26 August

RHS Hyde Hall, Chelmsford

Held within marquees in the beautiful gardens, the event features 140 exhibitors of UK contemporary craft makers and artists. Visitors can browse and shop artwork, textiles, furniture, jewellery, ceramics and more while enjoying the gorgeous grounds of RHS Hyde Hall. Also included is a food village with exhibitors selling delicious food products and a varied selection of live music throughout the event making this an enjoyable day for the whole family.

Essex Back to the 90s Concert, 23 August

Calling all 90s kids! Relive your youth with a night of 90s hits. Confirmed artists include B*Witched, East 17, Baby D, Living Joy and of course there really is no party like an S Club Party!

Essex Sausage, Cider and Music Festival, 24-25 August

A fantastic Bank Holiday family event, the festival has a great line up of tribute bands including Noasis, Kaiser Thiefs, Kopycat Killers, Guns 2 Roses, Cheatles, So Pink and one of the UK’s leading Michael Jackson impersonators Navi. Glamping facilities are available, and under 6s go free!

Burnham Week, 24-31 August

The Quay, Burnham-on-Crouch

As one of the East Coast’s premier regattas, Burnham Week is in its 127th year. There will be yachting events held on the River Crouch throughout the week, as well as activities ashore including cocktail parties, dinners, BBQs & entertainment.

Annual Wine Festival, 31 August-1 September

New Hall Vineyards, Chelmsford Road, Purleigh

The event offers so much more than wine with a programme of events for the whole family to enjoy. There will be live music, open winery, vineyard tours, handmade craft stalls, locally produced snacks and hot food, free kids’ craft barn, bubble show, beer & bubbles bar, dance acts and more.
