Tis the season to be… spooky! If you want to scare yourself silly, a whole host of ghostly amusements can be found across the East of England, but here are the haunting highlights…

Cambridgeshire ghost tours

Nunkie, Ghost Writers on the Camb, takes place most Sundays

For an intellectual look into the ghost tour, ‘Ghost Writers on the Camb’ can be enjoyed by believers and non-believers alike. The two hour tour focuses on the ghost stories born from Cambridge’s hallowed halls by writers such as M R James. Cambridge’s Official Guided Halloween Ghost Tour, from 27-31 October

Suitable for the under 12s, this child friendly tour lasts for an hour and costs £10 for an adult ticket, £6 for under 12s and £8 concessions. The tour starts at the front of Guildhall Market Square and booking is essential. Two tours run every day, one at 6pm and the other at 7.30pm. Put your walking shoes on and look forward to your spooky evening stroll through Cambridge!


Black Shuck Cambridge Ghost Tours, 7 days a week, all year long, tours start regularly from 4pm to 10pm everyday

This is certainly one of Cambridge’s most well-known spooky tours. Prices vary from £45 to £160 depending on the size of the group and which length of tour you choose. Or, if ghosts don’t tickle your fancy, Black Shuck also offer a tour on death and a tour on witches.

Ghost tours in Bedfordshire

A self guided ghost tour in Bedfordshire 

If you’re brave enough to go it alone, and want to become a home grown ghost hunter check out Bedfordshire’s top 10 most haunted houses – including the haunted (and grade 1 listed) Georgian, Flitwick manor, boasting its own hidden room, rediscovered in the 1900s, and multiple sightings of a ghostly woman at the window.

Norfolk ghost tours

Another DIY ghost tour, Norfolk Tours summarises the haunted highlights – including Blickling Hall where Anne Boleyn ‘s headless ghost is said to roam. The phantom of her father, Sir Thomas, has also been spotted.

Ghost Walks Norwich, Halloween Specials 

For a guide led tour, Norwich ghost walks supply a Halloween special which includes re-enactments of some of the more gruesome local tales in the beautiful Cow Tower Park in Norwich. It’s only £8 a ticket for this affordable fright fest. A dramatic spin on the ghost tour perfect for Halloween.

Landguard Fort Ghost Tour,

There are regular ghost hunts at this East Anglian attraction, usually with a paranormal investigation of the whole fort. Holding a turbulent history of conflict, the fort boasts a recurring sighting of a sailor in one of the top right windows. For £45 this event is for over 18s only and includes séances, ouiji boards and actual ghost hunting equipment. It sells out quickly so plan ahead.

Essex Ghost Tours

An overnight spooky spectacular, this ghost hunting sit-in event includes a hot buffet and is held in this grade 1 listed building from 8pm to 2am from £47 per person. Book now to catch a glimpse of one of the main three ghosts known to dwell the hotel and restaurant – a young boy, a monk and a murdered chambermaid.

Hangmans Hill Epping Forest Ghost Walk

This legendary ghost tour is the official and original Hangmans Hill Epping Forest ghost walk. Seen on both TVs ‘Most Haunted’ and ‘The Only Way Is Essex’. The tour includes tales of various sightings, the appearance of a medium and a visit to a cemetery. Costing £18 per ticket and lasting from 8pm -10.30pm, this night time event is packed with all you could ask from a ghost tour.
