The bank holiday Easter weekend is a great opportunity for a day out with the family – after all there’s only so much chocolate you can eat! We’ve come up with some brilliant ideas for entertaining the whole family this Easter…

Easter special at Audley End Railway, 6-22 April

Hop aboard the train and venture into the woods to visit the Easter bunny. There’s a chance to practice your ‘I Spy’ skills on route! Visitors can try to spot all the animals, nests and eggs throughout the Easter trail to earn an Easter gift before getting crafty. Must be booked in advance. Tickets from £12-£14.

Easter Trail at Cambridge Botanic Gardens, 6-22 April

Animals from all over the world are dropping in to the Garden this spring to help out their friend, the Easter Bunny. Pick up a free trail from the ticket office and go on a springtime adventure to find the animals, see some amazing plants and collect an Easter prize at the end. Normal garden admission applies for accompanying adults.

Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt, 20-22 April

The Easter bunny returns to National Trust properties for a chocolate filled weekend. Throughout the grounds of each property, you’ll find clues to crack that will lead you to the chocolate treats. You can take part in the fun at Ickworth House & Gardens, Sheringahm Park, Blickling Estate, Wicken Fen and more. Find your nearest location at

Easter Bunny Fun at Woburn Abbey, 6-22 April

Bring the whole family together during the Easter holidays at Woburn Abbey for a fun day out in the gardens and spot the first signs of spring. Woburn Abbey’s Easter Trail will keep children entertained as they hunt for Easter bunnies dotted throughout the Abbey Gardens. Each bunny has a letter on its ear and once unscrambled, these letters will spell a word which will be awarded with a prize. Collect your trail map from the gift shop on arrival.

Easter calls for chocolate and…errr…dragons! There’s no bunny at Colchester Castle, instead brave children can learn about mythical beasts by following the trail before designing their own creature in the crafts area. For the very brave, the dragon will be roaring into action at 11.25am, 12.15pm and 2.15pm.

Easter at Amazona Zoo

A fun spring day out for the children of all ages, the zoo has a fantastic selection of animals native to South America. As well as over 200 animals, there’s an indoor play area, outdoor adventure play, tarantula spider house and a cute South American guinea pig village. Visitors during spring will be able to see a carpet of seasonal snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells as they tour the zoo. Visit on Easter Sunday and each child will receive a free cream egg!

Easter Eggstravaganza activities at intu Lakeside, 6-21 April

To kick off the Easter fun intu Lakeside will have a Little Tikes play zone in the Central Atrium on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April as part of Little Tikes 50th anniversary celebration. The play zone will include a variety of Little Tikes toys and activities including a Cozy Coupe race track. To help celebrate intu Lakeside are offering customer a chance to win a £100 Little Tikes voucher.

The Easter fun then continues with intu Lakeside’s chocolate themed mini golf on Level 1 in the Central Atrium. This activity combines all the fun and competition golf brings plus the added joy from chocolates. Families can take part in this activity from Monday 15 to Saturday 20 April.

Spring chicks at Mountfitchet Castle, Stansted

It’s no yolk folks, some spring chicks at Mountfitchet Castle, Stansted, have hatched out just in time to meet for visitors joining in the Free Egg Hunt from 6-22 April.
