The 2018 wedding flower trends you need to know, straight from the experts

Weddingly, the south east’s online resource for planning your wedding and matching couples with their ideal vendors, have teamed up with expert Wedding Florist and owner of The Hertfordshire Flower School, Kerry Ashby, to create the ultimate guide to nailing some of 2018’s biggest trends in wedding flowers.

Kerry says: “Weddings are becoming more creative than ever and your flowers can be a big part of that. Find a florist who has the same vision and excitement for your big day as you do, they’ll work with you to build something utterly magical.”

Whether you’re looking to save, spend or splurge on your wedding flowers, these are the trends you need to know:

Bringing Outdoors In

For something truly magical, embrace an all-foliage style and bring your wedding venue to life. This botanical look sees classic blooms swapped for lots of fresh, wild greenery, bringing the enchantment of a secret garden into your venue. It’s something a little different but the result is utterly divine.

Make it work for your budget…

Splurge:Go extra-dreamy with large, wow-worthy installations. Get married under an arch of tousled greenery, line your venue with trees and celebrate under suspended foliage bombs and hanging arrangements.

Spend:Create something truly gorgeous by running full, fresh foliage garlands down the centre of your tables. This look is particularly beautiful if you’re having long, banquet style tables.

Save: Get the look without breaking the bank by placing bell jars filled with foliage along the tables and accenting with fairytale-style moss and leaves.

Suspended Florals

This statement look will have an instant impact on your wedding styling. A large hanging installation over your wedding tables is perfect for that look of luxury. It will create a magical atmosphere as your guests feast, mingle and toast to your big day under a canopy of wild and wonderful blooms.

Make it work for your budget…

Splurge: Go all out with something oversized and bursting with posies. The aim is for this installment to look really full, with your flowers and foliage cascading from above to create a wildly wonderful ceiling effect.

Spend: Use suspended floral hoops, hanging garlands or flower curtains interspersed with fairy lights to emulate this enchanting look whilst using less flowers. It won’t have the same fullness, but the result will still be divine.

Save: For something a little more budget-friendly, simply suspend ivy garlands from the ceiling or wrap them around open beams. You’ll be left with something a little more relaxed, perfect for a bohemian style wedding.

Best of British

Choosing British flowers will give you the ultimate in quality, style and freshness. Flower farms across the country can provide beautiful, yet cost-effective and eco-friendly florals for your arrangements. Naturally grown and picked, they’ll bring a relaxed look to your floral styling – who doesn’t adore a wonky stem!

Make it work for your budget…

Splurge: This one’s all about embracing that wonderfully wild look. Use these gorgeous blooms to create big, bountiful arrangements. Chat to your florist about a-symmetric designs spilling from large urns, or filling your top table with flowers that appear to tumble over the edge onto the floor.

Spend: If you love the idea of getting married under a large installation but don’t quite have the budget for it, use your British blooms to semi-dress an arch, piling the arrangement around one corner and finishing the look with ribbon.

Save: Just a few posies popped in empty mason jars and strewn down the centre of your tables is a beautiful yet incredibly affordable way to embrace that boho-chic styling. A wonderful choice for the DIY bride.
