Winter in Woodbridge 2017

Carols, Christmas shopping and of course a visit from Santa, the pretty Suffolk market town of Woodbridge is celebrating Christmas in style…

With its cobbled streets, colourful houses and the River Debden, Woodbridge is winter postcard perfection. Add in a thriving community spirit and longstanding Christmas fair and you have something reminiscent of a Christmas fairy tale.

Woodbridge Christmas Fair 2017

This year the festivities begin on 3 December, when mammoth Christmas Fair returns. Running for over 20 years, it is held on the first Sunday of December and kicks off the town’s Christmas shopping season. The streets will be lined with stalls, over 100 in fact, where local tradesmen and businesses will be selling everything you could possibly need to complete your shopping list.

Starting from the Thoroughfare by the Red Lion pub to the Royal Mail offices in Cumberland Street, many of the town’s businesses will be holding pop up stalls outside their stores. The atmosphere is buzzing as the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas fill the air. Visitors hustle together to browse goods such as handmade decorations, crafts, accessories, clothing and local arts to name a few, while sipping on a cup of steaming mulled wine and tucking into local foodie treats. It’s an event not to be missed so put the date in your diary now!

Shopping in Woodbridge

If you can’t make the fair, don’t worry, as Woodbridge is perhaps one of Suffolk’s best kept shopping secrets. Among the usual high street stores, the streets are lined with independent businesses selling beautiful fashions, homewares and crafts. It’s a haven for finding special Christmas presents you might not be able to find anywhere else. For example, The Tannery, which opened in 2016 offers an amazing selection of leather bags and accessories crafted mainly in Italy.

The Tannery’s own brand products are made in Italian factories with a provenance that often stretches back through generations of craftsmen. It also features a huge selection of brands and there are thousands of products to choose from whether you want a handbag, briefcase, satchel bag, piece of luggage, pair of shoes or small leather accessory, to suit your needs or to give pleasure as the perfect gift!

Earlier this year a new shopping initiative was launched, by a band of independent businesses located at the end of The Thoroughfare near Elmhurst Park. Now known as Parkside Shops, made up of 22 businesses, the stores have created an exciting and vibrant shopping destination, regularly featuring special promotions. Part of Parkside Shops are Holly Blue, Ninni Noo and Laura Jane, all of which specialise in beautiful women’s fashions. With on trend designs, classic style staples and accessories galore you may find you’ll be buying a present or two for yourself!
