Mahler Chamber Orchestra Patricia Kopatchinskaja violin/director Stravinsky Suite from The Soldier’s Tale 25 Bartok Divertimento for Strings 19 Ligeti Violin Concerto 28 As one of this festival’s featured artists, Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s first programme with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra is typically stimulating; from Stravinsky’s dark wartime fairy tale and Bartok’s premonition of conflict, to Ligeti’s bittersweet reinvention of the great Hungarian violin tradition. The three composers all witnessed their personal roots being ripped up violently. And each took the materials of folklore to explore, to warn, and to create new voices from lost worlds.
